Our visit to FOX 12 Studios

Sara did a project for the science fair this year on weather. The hypothesis was "I don't think the weather forecasters are ever right because what they predict always seems wrong" (or something along those lines). Every day for two weeks she checked the forecasted high, and then each day when she came home she would check the actual temperature. She logged the information and then dad helped her put it on a graph to show the differences. Turns out the weather forecasters are right MOST of the time (I'm still a non-believer!!). As Sara and Will were wrapping up the final details of the project the night before the science fair Will thought it would be fun to email the local news stations and tell them it would be a fun opportunity for them to give themselves a little pat on the back. That night FOX emailed back and wanted more information. After a follow-up phone call the next morning, next thing we know they are making plans to go to the school that day to see the fair and interview Sara!!!!

A variety of segments played as the weather lead-in on each news broadcast starting with the 5:00 all the way up through the 10:00. Mark Nelson, the weather guy, was being very fun and playful and said he would really like to meet Sara and talk to her about her project. He and Will started emailing back and forth and the next thing you know he has invited the whole family down to the studio for a tour. On Monday evening of spring break we all went down and met he and his fellow broadcasters, had a tour of the studio, and got to see all the behind the scenes and meet the cast and crew. It was VERY cool!!! Below are a few photos from our visit, and I will continue to find a way to pull the news clips off of the DVR for a later post.

This is the Better studio (the 9:00 local news magazine show).

This is the main studio news desk. Pretty cool to see the actual environment, which seems much smaller in person than it does on TV.

Goofing around with Mark Nelson in front of the green screen.

The camera in front of the green screen....me taking a picture of us on video :-)

We got to meet Shauna Parsons and Wayne Garcia, the afternoon/evening news anchors. They were all very cool and fun and knew exactly who Sara was.....even the support crew knew all about her!! They had a lot of fun with the story and Sara was pretty tickled to get all of that attention. All in all a very fun experience!!

The Infirmary

Where Emma has spent a majority of the last three fever filled days:

What 103.2 fever looks like:
And the little girl who started it all:

The 4th grade plague continues. Sara started with the cough/fever two weeks ago....lasted five days (cough is still lingering). I thought we were free and clear, then Emma came home Friday not feeling so great, woke up Friday with the fever/cough. (what did I expect, Sara layed there coughing in her face for 10 days!!). So then Nick started with it this morning....no cough, just a fever. (note it does not slow down his Wii action!!!) And so at this point, I believe it will be nothing short of a medical miracle if I don't get it!!!!!

Happy 8th Birthday to Nick

We celebrated Nick's 8th birthday on Sunday with a few of his friends. They spent a couple of hours at the Wilsonville Family Fun Center playing laser tag and video games, then came back to the house for cake and ice cream. He wanted to do an Air Force theme (don't know WHERE that came from!!) so we created a little "compound" in the dining room with camoflauge netting, hung some airplanes inside, put a mini-F15 on the cake and called it good!!!

Oh, and of course we jumped on the trampoline in our newly fallen snow!!! Five, eight year old boys--now THAT is a lot of energy in one place. God bless those 2nd grade teachers....I don't know how they do it!!!!!!!!

And then there are were the girls....close enough to get in on the chocolate cake action, not so close as to get any of the "boy germs". :-)
