Pioneer Day

As a culmination of the year of fourth grade studies, the girls enjoyed the big finale event known as Pioneer Day. They have been studying the Oregon Trail, Lewis and Clark, etc. all year. At the beginning of this last tri-mester they were all given an identity of different "pioneer character". They had to write stories and complete different activities around the characters. They were each assigned to a group (family), and each group built a "covered wagon" out of little red wagons, and made a "journey" to Burnlingame Park (up the street from the school), where they had a picnic lunch and made butter, ice cream and candles.

The girls were beyond excited, so much so that they slept in their outfits the night before. Sara was up at 5 o'clock that morning (you would have thought it was Christmas!!)!! The weather did not disappoint~thankfully it was a sunny, warm day (almost too warm!!) and they indeed had a BLAST! Dad did the parent help on this one, so unfortunately I don't have any photos of the event itself to share. But here is a photo of them in their outfit before as we headed out the door to the bus.

Yet another sign that school is ALMOST OVER!!!!
